Everything on this site is general information. It isn't medical advice, and it can't replace a conversation with your GP, practice nurse, midwife or another qualified professional who knows your history.
Information, not advice
The BMI calculator, charts and guides on BMICalculatorsFemale.co.uk are here to help you understand your numbers and the questions worth asking. They aren't a diagnosis, and they don't create any kind of doctor–patient relationship. Please don't start, stop or change any treatment, medicine or diet based only on something you've read here.
What BMI can and can't tell you
BMI is a screening measure. It uses only your height and weight, so it can't account for muscle, bone density, body shape, ethnicity or where you carry fat. A result in any category is a starting point for a conversation, not a verdict on your health.
Who the calculator isn't suitable for
The calculator is designed for women aged 18 to 65. You shouldn't rely on it if you are:
- under 18
- over 65
- pregnant
- diagnosed with an eating disorder
- living with a condition that affects your height
How we keep content accurate
Our guides are based on published guidance from the NHS, NICE and the World Health Organization, and each one lists its sources. We check them when that guidance changes and show the date each page was last updated. Even so, medical advice moves on, and we can't guarantee every page reflects the very latest position at the moment you read it.
Adverts on this site
The site is funded by adverts served by Google AdSense. We don't select the individual adverts, and they have no influence on what we write. An advert for a diet, supplement, clinic or health product is not a recommendation from us. Always check with a healthcare professional before trying something you've seen advertised.
If you need help now

- For urgent medical help that isn't an emergency, call NHS 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk.
- If you're worried about eating or your weight, Beat, the UK's eating disorder charity, can help.
