We want everyone to be able to use this site, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or high-contrast settings. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and we know of a few places where we fall short.
What you should be able to do
- Use the calculator, unit converter, menus and FAQs with a keyboard alone, with a visible outline showing where you are
- Zoom text up to 200% without content being cut off, and use the site on a phone in portrait or landscape
- Use a screen reader: pages have a logical heading structure, form fields have labels, and results are announced when they appear
- Read results without relying on colour. Every BMI category is written out in words, and every square in our BMI charts shows its number
- Use your device's dark mode. The site switches automatically, with colours checked for contrast in both modes
- Turn off animation. If your device is set to reduce motion, the site respects it
- Skip straight to the main content with the skip link at the top of each page
Known limitations
- BMI chart tooltips appear on mouse hover only. The same information is available to everyone in the table itself, through its row and column headings.
- Adverts are provided by Google AdSense, and we don't control how accessible each advert is.
- The consent message for advertising cookies is provided by Google, so its accessibility is outside our direct control.
Tell us about a problem
If you find something hard to use, or need information in a different format, email hello@bmicalculatorsfemale.co.uk. Please tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and the device and any assistive technology you use. We'll aim to reply within a few working days.
The standard we aim for
We test against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2, level AA. We review accessibility whenever we make significant changes to the site.
